Associated Student Body (ASB)
PurposeThe Associated Student Body (ASB) is the student government at Acaciawood School. The ASB performs a variety of functions:
MembershipASB is composed of four officers (president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer) and six class representatives, one from each grade from 7 th to 12 th. All officers and representatives are elected by closed ballot by the students. In order to run for the offices of ASB president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer, candidates must have and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Two recommendations in writing must be obtained from two separate teachers and turned in to the ASB advisor by the published deadline in order to declare candidacy. In addition, in order to run for president or vice-president of the Acaciawood ASB, a student must be a junior or senior in high school. In order to run for secretary or treasurer of the Acaciawood ASB, a student must be in high school. In order to run for the office of ASB class representative, a student must have and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.75, and approval must be obtained from one’s homeroom teacher. Responsibilities/How it functionsOfficers have specific responsibilities. The president oversees all ASB activities by scheduling meetings, delegating tasks, and monitoring progress. The vice president assists the president in oversight as well as calling for a count on all legislative votes. In the case where the president is unable to fulfill his or her responsibilities the vice president will temporarily assume presidential duties. The secretary records minutes of all ASB meetings including the agenda, attendance, and the results of all legislative votes. The treasurer is in charge of all ASB expenditures and must keep track of all financial transactions. Weekly meetings are held typically every Wednesday but meetings are subject to change based on other school activities, such as volleyball and basketball games. All members are required to attend all meetings, but may be excused in advance with approval. Meetings are an open-forum discussion with the president acting as the moderator. Representatives are encouraged to participate as much as possible to convey the opinions and desires of their respective class. What the ASB doesEvery year, the ASB plans various school events. Planning and organizing such activities are not only a responsibility for the ASB, but a rewarding experience because these activities promotes school spirit and provide an opportunity for the entire Acaciawood community to blend together as one family. Last modified: 6/5/06 |
