Academics

Curriculum

A challenging academic curriculum forms the core of the Acaciawood program. All courses are designed to advanced the school’s Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLRs), which are summarized as follows:

Acaciawood graduates are:

  • Persons of character
  • Accomplished learners
  • Productive, goal-oriented workers
  • Responsible citizens

The school is divided into two divisions. The lower division consists of an elementary school with grades 2 through 6. The elementary program focuses on study habits and citizenship, reading, writing, math, science, and social studies supplemented by music and physical education.

The upper division encompasses both junior high and high school. In the junior high curriculum particular attention is given to developing the study skills necessary for success in high school and beyond.

The high school curriculum is patterned after the University of California system a-g requirements. It includes five core subject areas—English, History and Social Studies, Math, Science, and Spanish—and a variety of electives selected to broaden and deepen our students’ base of knowledge and skills. Provisions are made to allow students to supplement the courses offered by the school with course offered through other channels such as accredited online courses, local junior college courses, and the Regional Occupational Program.

The Acaciawood faculty is extremely dedicated and well-educated. Many faculty members have advanced degrees and/or professional experience in their fields.
