Parent Support Group
Purpose:
To strengthen this partnership of education and character
training, the parents of Acaciawood School (AWS) have organized as a
team to assist the school in the administrative, faculty, and special event
needs of AWS. In order to more effectively coordinate and cooperate with
the school, a formal organization entitled the Parent Support Group (PSG) was formed in 1998 to provide opportunities for volunteer service to assist the school.
Elections:
The PSG holds annual election of officers consisting of a
president, vice-president, and a treasurer, and is governed by a set of
bylaws and mission statement. (Copies of these will be made available to parents on request.) Each parent of an Acaciawood student is
automatically a voting member of this organization and is encouraged to participate in PSG-sponsored activities throughout the school year.
Dues:
At the beginning of the school year, voluntary PSG dues are
collected by the PSG treasurer. Dues are used to fund appreciation gifts for teachers as well as to pay for miscellaneous items needed to support the school and its faculty.
Meetings:
PSG meetings are called throughout the year on an as-needed basis, but at least once per quarter. Notices of the meetings are sent out via e-mail, posted in the school newsletter, or by use of telephone calls.
Activities:
Among some of the activities that the PSG has supported
and/or organized include: weekly faculty meeting snacks, operation of
food concessions at bi-annual trainings, fund-raising projects, field trip
drivers/assistants, student recruitment, school campus work days,
emergency phone chain, and earthquake survival kits. The PSG takes on other projects as requested by the school or as the needs arise. If each parent will volunteer during the year, much can be accomplished by the end of the year with no single parent bearing too much of the burden.
Minimum service:
During each school year, the PSG hopes that each
family will participate in at least 36 hours of volunteer service per year, including the following activities:
- Providing snacks for one weekly faculty meeting.
- Supporting two school campus work days.
- Each parent is encouraged to serve on the food concessions at least
one time during both annual trainings, and to participate in one
other PSG activity during the year.
Service forms:
Parents can volunteer for the activities of their choice by filling out a service form provided by the PSG which are available at the school orientation meeting, PSG meetings, and at the school office.
